Cooking up a recipe for success

Children across Tower Hamlets reaped delicious rewards after getting creative in the kitchen through more Recipe for Fun cooking competitions. The cookbook now has over 130 recipes!

The most recent competition took place over the summer across six schools, submitting over 65 recipes. In the end it was Deborah, 7, from St Saviour’s primary school that took first place with her yummy dish of rice with spicy chicken and vegetables. Her fellow students were lucky enough to sample the winning dish when it was cooked up and served as school lunch. Continue reading

We Can All Be Winners in Tower Hamlets!

Here in the 2012 Host Borough of Tower Hamlets, what better way to celebrate and get into the sporting spirit than to get active and eat more healthily. 

To make it easier to spot a cafe, restaurant, take-away, fast food outlet, caterer or corner shop that offers healthier options, look for the new ‘We’re a winner’ sticker. You can be sure that venue has met the right criteria to be recognised in making its food less unhealthy than it was before and making a big effort to offer healthier options.  There are now over 112 food businesses involved in these awards across the borough. Youngsters use local produce in healthy cook-off

Twelve children from Bangabandhu Primary School took part in a bit of healthy competition using fresh ingredients from their local Nisa Store in Roman Road. The Recipe for fun cook-off encouraged youngsters between the ages of five to 11 to create tasty, healthy dishes using items from their Buywell corner shop. Buywell shops across Tower Hamlets have made a commitment to increasing the availability of fruit and vegetables and other healthy choices in their stores. Continue reading
